By default, Slack doesn’t have any feature or option that can help you delete messages in bulk from channels or direct messages. This can sometimes become irritating for all of us as we have to manually delete each message from the direct messages or channels on Slack. So, if you are fed up of deleting messages on Slack one by one manually, then this post will help you get rid of that. In this instructional post, I will explain how to delete messages in bulk on Slack.
To do this, I will use a free Google Chrome extension “Message Deleter for Slack”. It lets you easily delete messages in bulk on Slack. You can either use this extension to delete messages in bulk from direct messages as well as Slack channels.
How to Delete Messages in Bulk on Slack:
First, install the “Message Deleter for Slack“ extension on Chrome and then you can use the extension icon to delete messages in bulk. When you click the icon, the message deletion option will appear. It will actually fetch the link of any direct messages or channels on Slack which you’re browsing currently. That means it will only work with Slack links and not with the URLs of other websites. If you try to use this extension for other URLs, then you will get an error message as you can see below.
Now, to bulk delete messages from a Slack channel, simply open up the channel and then click the “Message Deleter for Slack” icon on the toolbar of your browser. As soon as you do that, a small window will open up and you will see a “Delete All My Messages” button on it.
Additionally, you will also see other details such as API key, team URL, channel name, current URL, channel ID, and user ID on the small window. Now, in order to delete all messages from the selected Slack channel click on the “Delete All My Messages” button.
As soon as you do that, it will fetch all the messages from the channel and start deleting them all automatically in bulk. Once the deletion is complete, a popup notification will appear saying “Congratulation, all messages deleted!”.
Similarly, you can browse all your Slack channels and direct messages and then use the extension to delete all the messages in bulk from them.
Conclusion:
This tutorial will help you delete messages in bulk on Slack automatically and with ease. You can simply use the “Message Deleter for Slack” extension in order to do the same. You can now delete all messages from Slack channels and DMs in a single click.
